The last time Sandy Hackett hit South Bend with his “Rat Pack Show,” gasps greeted his joke about a former Penn State football coach imprisoned for having sex with young boys.
Not that Joey Bishop himself wouldn’t have seized the same Jerry Sandusky moment had he been hamming it up on stage with Frank, Dean and Sammy.
“It’s not my fault he’s doing what he’s doing,” Hackett — Bishop in the “Rat Pack Show” — reasons in response to the reaction over the Sandusky joke last year at the Morris Performing Arts Center.
“I gotta be true to my roots and Joey Bishop,” he says. “If Sandusky was in the news back in their day, you can bet they would have been talking about him.”
